With a short quote from Bach's celebrated theme Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, this lilting Christmas anthem is also based on words adapted from a fifth-century text. The well-crafted choral texture includes a few points of imitation, occasional cued tenor notes, and quite a bit of unison and two-part singing. Optional cello and handbell parts add color and interest.
